The CATCH "Go for Health" series is a classroom health education curriculum for preschool through Grade 5 that teaches children to identify, practice, and adopt healthy eating and physical activity habits, as well as tobacco avoidance. Starting in preschool, the curriculum progresses with age-appropriate concepts and utilizes positive role modeling. "It’s Fun to Be Healthy!"
CATCH Early Childhood (CEC) is designed to promote physical activity and healthy food choices among preschool children ages 3-5. CEC lesson plans, which include hands-on activities, encourage healthy eating patterns by increasing children’s knowledge and skills towards eating healthy foods. Spanish-English parent tip sheets complement the lesson plans and provide parents with the information necessary to help their children and families make healthy food and physical activity choices. Vocabulary key words are also included in Spanish and French.
CEC PE activities provide children with fun, physical education/activities, specifically aimed at increasing their moderate-to-vigorous physical activity while at preschool. The lesson plans and PE activities, combined with spirited music, colorful hand puppets and other stimulating visuals, create an environment where physical activity, health education, and healthy eating behaviors are valued and taught.
Little ones are motivated to walk, run, jump, dance, and move their whole bodies while playing and having fun, as a solid foundation for healthy living is established.

"Jump into Health"

"Everyday Foods for Health"
Everyday Foods for Health is divided into 10 learning sessions with nutrition information and physical activities, as well the cartoon characters introduced in the Kindergarten curricula.
Each session is 15-25 minutes of class time. Special

Third Grade

Fourth Grade
"Taking Off"
This is a hands-on series of lessons. The curriculum
focuses on changes in specific cognitive or personal attributes, especially
the students' knowledge about more health food selections and different types
of moderate-to-vigorous physical activities.
Taking Off is a continuation of the story of Hearty Heart & friends
from the third grade. Pantomimes and play acting encourage students to develop
body awareness when they are doing physical activities correctly. Children are
taught to recognize good choices when selecting food, such as their lunch and
snacks. Numerous reproducible handouts and action games such as "Snack Bingo are included. A "Fat Facts" session teaches how to identify foods which contain bad fats and ways to reduce the bad fat. Students also learn how to identify advertisers that are trying to get them to eat non-healthy snacks. Fun assignments are part of the learning process. Students are given the opportunity to create advertising campaigns for healthy foods and groups are assigned to develop TV ads and magazine ads.

P.A.S.T. (Putting a Stop to Diabetes)
Diabetes is a serious, costly disease that is on the rise. Twenty-four million Americans have diabetes, and 1 out of every 3 children born today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue.
CATCH, following the standards set forth by the American Diabetes Foundation, has developed this supplement to provide introductory information about diabetes.
Each of the four sessions of P.A.S.T. Diabetes curriculum will take approximately
30-40 minutes to complete. The curriculum uses a variety of strategies, including
cooperative learning groups, large group discussions, and goal-setting activities.
Original copies of all handouts are included for each session.
The first session explains what diabetes is, discusses
the two main types of diabetes and why it is important to learn about the disease.
The second session outlines how physical activity is related to the prevention

Fifth Grade Supplement

Cigarette smoking is the single most preventable of premature death in the United States. F.A.C.T.S (Facts & Activities about Chewing Tobacco & Smoking) is a four-session classroom curriculum developed for fifth grade elementary school students.
