"Everyday Foods for Health"
Everyday Foods for Health is divided into 10 learning sessions of nutrition information and physical activities. It continues with the characters Hearty Heart and Dynamite Diet from the kindergarten story.
Each session is 15-25 minutes of class time. Special sessions are devoted to eating breakfast and including fruits and vegetables in all meals. The lessons begin with the characters, Hearty Heart & Dynamite Diet, from the second grade story, and introduce additional health wise friends. Together these characters go on an adventure to teach the children of Earth all about having a healthy heart. Each chapter begins with another episode in the adventure story, followed up with activities to reinforce the lessons taught in the story.
At the end of each lesson there are series of activities and a summary of what was learned. Throughout the manual CATCH has provided snack recipes that are kid and teacher friendly to prepare. Fourth Grade
"Taking Off"
This is a hands-on series of lessons. The curriculum focuses on changes in specific cognitive or personal attributes, especially the students' knowledge about more health food selections and different types of moderate to vigorous physical activities.
It is a continuation of the story of Hearty Heart & friends from the third grade. Pantomimes and play acting encourage students to develop body awareness when they are doing physical activities correctly. They are taught to recognize the good choices in food selections. There are numerous reproducible hand-outs and action games such as "Snack Bingo. A "Fat Facts" session teaches how to identify foods which contain bad fats and ways to reduce the bad fat. Good choices are encouraged in selecting health lunches and snacks. Students learn how to identify advertisers trying to get them to eat non-health snacks. Fun assignments are part of the learning process, students are given opportunity to create advertising campaigns for healthy foods - groups are assigned to develop TV ads and magazine ads.

P.A.S.T. (Putting a Stop to Diabetes)
Diabetes is a serious, costly disease that is on the rise. Seventeen million Americans have diabetes and over 200,000 people die each year of related complications. CATCH following the standards set forth by the American Diabetes Foundation, has developed this supplement to provide introductory information about diabetes.
Each of the four sessions of P.A.S.T. Diabetes curriculum will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. The curriculum uses a variety of strategies, including cooperative learning groups, large group discussions and goal setting activities. Original copies of all hand-outs are included for each session.
The first session explains what diabetes is, discusses the two main types of diabetes and why it is important to learn about the disease. The second session outlines how physical activity is related to the prevention and treatment. The third session discusses the importance of a healthy diet. This curriculum encourages changes in behavior factors that support healthy eating and increasing physical activity patterns by teaching students the skills to select and prepare simple food snacks.
The text teaches the students how to implement positive behavioral changes by using social reinforcement in making the actual changes in eating and physical activity patterns positive steps. Fifth Grade Supplement
F.A.C.T. S.(Facts & Activities about Chewing Tobacco & Smoking)
Cigarette smoking is the single most preventable of premature death in the United States. F.A.C.T.S (Facts & Activities about Chewing Tobacco & Smoking) is a four-session classroom curriculum developed for fifth grade elementary school students.
F.A.C.T.S. was designed to emphasize the dangerous, costly and adverse aspects of both smoking and chewing tobacco. The first session describes all the reasons why using tobacco is undesirable, including long-term, short-term and negative social consequences.
